Search Engine Optimization Basics

The first and most important step in optimizing your website for search engine registration is the relevance of the website content.  Once your website is published to the Internet, before anyone can find you using a search engine the search engines must spider or read the content on your website.  The information they collect determines their search results.

There are two sources of content in your webpage which are:

  1. Public content this is defined as the content on the webpage that a visitor sees when they visit your site.  This is usually comprised of text and images.  The search engines read the text only.
  2. Meta tags which are embedded information in the html or xhtml of the webpage and is not visible to the visitor.  These are comprised in order of importance as Page Title, Page Description, and Key Words.

When the search engines spider or read your site they compare these two sources of information which is what determines the relevance or rank they assign to your site in relation to the search that was entered.

On websites created by iNET image Optimization Basics are:

  1. After the website is completed we create meta tag information for each page based on the content you supplied about your business.
  2. After publishing your website we create HTML, XML, RAR, and text site map documents that are read by the search engines when they spider or read your webpages.
  3. We enter your web address in our Google, Bing, and Yahoo registration accounts.  This invites them to visit your site and use the site map documents to navigate your site for registration purposes.

These steps insure that your website structure is sound and can be indexed properly by the search engines.
